Selma, NBC and Fox

Two quick notes about recent events:

1. Both Brian Williams (NBC) and Bill O’Reilly (Fox) have recently been caught in almost identical lies. Brian spoke as if he had been present at a dangerous moment in Iraq and Bill did the same about Argentina and Ireland. NBC viewers were rightly offended at Brian, who has received a six-month suspension from his duties as the most popular news anchor in America. Fox News, on the other hand, report that Bill’s ratings have gone up.

There you have in a nutshell the difference between NBC and Fox: One ares about the truth, the other about ratings. Shame on Fox!

2. Today’s memorial march at Selma marks one of the most defining moments in America’s move toward equality of dignity for all people since the Civil War. Until yesterday not one Republican leader planned to participate. Late yesterday it was announced that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy would join the walk. Can anything possibly send a more clear signal that the Republican party is now dominated and perhaps motivated by barely disguised racism? Shame on the Republicans!
