I saw a brief clip today of Fox News’ Lou Dobbs, explaining who is at fault for all the recent turmoil in Ferguson, Mo, including the recent shooting of two police officers. Apparently the evidence that the police department has consistently operated with prejudice against Blacks is irrelevant to Dobbs (and to many on the right). Evidence has never been known to have any impact on Fox News but this is absurd. No more absurd than 47 Senators trying to supplant the President and the Constitution by writing to Iran or the House inviting Netanyahu to speak. But very absurd nonetheless.
What did Dobbs say? Simply this: I know who is to blame for the troubles in Ferguson? The President and the Attorney General. They have created the tone [allowing people to turn against the police].
It appears the Far Right has taken a turn in the last couple of months: They no longer care about trying to create the illusion of rationality.
Normally, I would dismiss people like Dobbs, O’Reilly, Beck, and Limbaugh as kooks on the sidelines. But there are too many people who actually pay attention to their scorn and hatred, so now I have to conclude that they are a serious threat to democracy in America. Shame on those in our country who believe such men have any hint of integrity about them.
