Americans gripe a lot about the more than obvious fact that many? most? all of our political leaders sell their votes to the highest bidders. We’ve hated that fact while not knowing what to do about it, since the laws to end the practice would have to be passed by the very politicians who benefit from it.
Politicians who allow themselves to be bought are morally repugnant but no more so, of course, than are the rotten people who pay the bribes. Those who buy politicians are moral scum, corrupt to the core.
The amazing thing is that so many Republicans are cheering for Donald Trump, in part because he says he cannot be bought. That is very difficult to believe since he has shown greed to be one of his strongest characteristics.
Worse, the support for Trump is amazing because he has not only admitted he buys politicians but he brags about it. We should be throwing him in jail! Instead, conservatives — very much to their shame — adore him.
Want to identify a moral pit as filthy as any in America? Look no further than the Tea Party.
