What’s wrong with our health care system? Just read this from an online BBC article about one drug company buying another and raising the price of one of its medicines:
“After Turning’s acquisition, a dose of Daraprim in the US increased from $13.50 (£8.70) to $750. The pill costs about $1 to produce, but Mr Shkreli, a former hedge fund manager, said that does not include other costs like marketing and distribution. ‘We needed to turn a profit on this drug,’ Mr Shkreli told Bloomberg TV. ‘The companies before us were just giving it away almost.'”
I cannot imagine a more damning explanation of how the system works. The key line: “We needed to turn a profit. . .” If America’s corporations do not get in infusion of morality, the country most certainly will turn more and more toward socialism in its health care system. Right now, it looks like capitalist medicine is rotten to the core and may well be beyond hope.
