I get a kick out of how much bragging Grump does over his poll numbers. Doing a little arithmetic suggests he hasn’t much to brag about. roughly speaking, Democrats and Republicans each represent about 40% of the American voting public. The polls vary, of course, but let’s choose a number which approximates Trump’s popularity at 30% of the Republicans. 30% of 40% equals a whopping 12%. Trump has just over 1 in 10 people claiming to support his bid for the presidency.
He is deeply offensive even to many members of the Republican party. So let’s guess that he gets the Republican nomination and then gets 80% of the Republican vote. He might get half the independent votes. So perhaps he would get 42% in a national election.
The Democrats will vote nearly 100% for the Democrat’s nominee, plus get 10% of the independent vote, plus 20% of the Republican vote. That comes out to about 58% in favor of the Democratic nominee.
So what’s all the bragging about???
