Two weeks ago Trump claimed he had seen thousands of Muslims cheering in New Jersey as the twin towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed. His story has been disproven repeatedly since then. Today one of Trump’s advisers released a video report from a New Jersey TV station, claiming the report proves trump was 100% correct.
If you watch the video report, you’ll discover what we already knew: A small handful of men were detained for apparently celebrating the fall of the towers.
The discrepancy between reality and Trump’s words is a serious matter. An occasional fib is par for the course for politicians. Outright lies, consistently told and insisted upon, are a sign of something deeper than moral laxity. It is becoming increasingly clear that Trump is actually unable to distinguish truth from falsehood, reality from imagination.
This may be a sign of his narcissism, which itself is a serious problem and which absolutely disqualifies anyone from holding a responsible position of leadership in government.
At what point do we conclude that Trump has a psychological problem far more serious than hubris? Does he in fact suffer from mental illness? I for one am becoming increasingly convinced that his personal problems run very deep and are in need of professional help.
