Replacing Scalia

Once again we see the incredible immaturity of the Republican Party. With the death of Justice Scalia, the Supreme Court is now in the awkward position of having 8 members, meaning it can become deadlocked in a 4-4 tie.

Republican leaders announced on the very day of Scalia’s death that they would not let President Obama appoint Scalia’s replacement. Yes, I understand that they do not want the balance on the Court to shift from conservative to liberal. But are they really so committed to their conservative agenda that they announce in advance that they will approve of no nomination put forth by the President? Yes. Absolutely yes.

They will not even ask whether that nominee is qualified. They will not ask what is good for America. They are stubborn little children with an unbelievably narrow vision. America be damned, they shout, all we want is to have our own way.

They claim to want the American people to decide (by choosing the next president). What they have never cared about is that in 2008 and 2012, the American people did decide. We elected Barack Obama. The Republicans immediately announced after Obama was first elected that they would oppose him in every way possible. And that is exactly what they have done.

It is hard to imagine a more anti-American political party.
