Trump: “I don’t owe anybody. . .”

In Wisconsin today, Trump told a small crowd that he doesn’t owe anything to anybody. In a sense, that may be true. He meant that he wasn’t accepting bribes disguised as campaign donations. He is a self-professed expert on such matters, bragging frequently that he has frequently bought politicians. (He seems amazingly insensitive to the fact that he thus proves himself to be morally bankrupt.)

Perhaps legally he owes nothing but still I wonder about how many people lost how much money by investing in his failures. He boasts of making millions of dollars by filing for bankruptcy but he shows no concern at all for those who did not game the system with him. Bankruptcy is a way of reducing or even eliminating legal debts, meaning you don’t have to pay a fair price for what you have bought.

Morally, don’t you think?, Trump owes hundreds of people huge sums of money. Only a man lacking in moral sensitivity would consider bankruptcy nothing more than a savvy business trick. He brags about being very, very wealthy. If that is true, why does he not pay the moral debts he has incurred? Our bankruptcy laws, meant to prevent financial disasters, have been used not to protect Trump but to increase his wealth. How un-American can one get?
