Paul Ryan: Between a Rock and a Hard Place

I don’t envy Paul Ryan these days. Having successfully stayed almost completely out of the campaign circus until the last week or so, he had the courage to express hesitation about Trump. But he didn’t have the courage to admit what he must really be thinking: Trump is without any qualifications for president and in fact has a number of serious weaknesses which disqualify him.

But were Ryan to state that publicly, that might well be the straw that breaks the Republican back. He doesn’t like Trump and he doesn’t like Democrats. That’s what is meant by the phrase, “Between a rock and a hard place.”

Poor Paul Ryan. he has to choose between being a good American and being a good Republican. I don’t envy him at all. By being a good American, I do not mean voting for Clinton — I do mean speaking with integrity.
