I just learned something from USA Today online: The US Congress Congress voted in 2014 to use 60 cents for deficit reduction from the $5.60 security fee on each flight segment. The diversion totals $1.25 billion this year, which would represent a significant amount for TSA with a $7.5 billion budget.
One of the dominant characteristics of conservative politicians these days is an extreme and utterly inexcusable lack of long range vision. Chess players who can think only one step ahead never win games. Just so, politicians who can see only one step ahead are never winners.
TSA has become a major problem for travelers, in large part because it is under funded because Congress, having once allocated several billion dollars for the TSA, has taken back a significant portion of that allocation.
It’s time we brought back that old cartoon character Mr. McGoo. His terrible short-sightedness would be a perfect caricature for Republicans. He — and they — are true fools.
