The House and the Senate finally made a substantial bi-partisan decision. And it was very foolish. The vote was to permit the families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia because it seems to many that Saudi Arabia either supported or at least didn’t hinder the 911 killers.
Obama vetoed the bill but congress overrode the veto.
How foolish can our leaders get? Can we have private citizens conducting their own kind of foreign relations? Can we permit our citizens to sue sovereign nations without expecting that citizens in those countries — and maybe even those very governments — now feeling free to sue the United States for the actions of its citizens abroad? How in the world could anyone, Democrat or Republican, be so dumb?
And then today the Republican leaders, finally putting some thought into the matter after the fact, have begun to realize the blunder. And Senate Majority Leader McConnell not only recognizes the error but he knows whose fault it is: Obama’s. He didn’t warn us strongly enough, whined McConnell.
With such immeasurable and childish irresponsibility at the top of the Republican Party, is it any wonder that they ended up with a candidate like trump?
