In a recent interview on ABC, Trump claimed that two people were killed in Chicago while Obama was giving his farewell address a couple of weeks ago. Such a claim has no connection to reality. Chicago police say there were no shootings during that time.
Trump’s problem is not just that he sometimes evades the truth but — far more seriously — he is drawn to falsehood. He is addicted to lying. And there is no evidence that he is even trying to resist and reform. For Trump, lying is a positive value. He is drawn to it like a bear to honey.
The other side of the same coin is that he is incapable of admitting mistakes or apologizing. he must be terrified of apologizing, very probably because that would be a vulnerability which his incredibly feeble ego cannot risk.
