For those who have studied with any care the Germany of the early 1930s — and the demonic creature who manipulated and intimidated his way into power in 1933 — these are deeply troubling days in America.
A few week ago, when presidential advisor Stephen Miller was the administration’s spokesperson for one amazing Sunday, I felt a chill deep inside, realizing what a blatant enemy of democracy was guiding the president. It was shocking to see that Trump would allow such an obvious opponent of America speak on his behalf.
Worse by far, it seems, is the more powerful advisor, Steve Bannon. In a 2013 interview, Bannon said, “I’m a Leninist. Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal, too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”
Bannon has since said he does not remember the conversation in which he purportedly made that claim. Notice that he has not said he disbelieves the idea, simply that he doesn’t remember the specific discussion.
What a creepy, slimy president we have! how in the world can we excuse him for surrounding himself with people like Manafort, Bannon, Miller?
